Automotive lighting has only gotten more complicated over the years; some makes and models having more than 3 computers PER headlamp assembly! This makes things especially tricky when trying to complete proper diagnoses and repairs. There are many different types of automatic lighting systems, including but not limited to headlight swivel control and automatic high-beams. Automotive Headlamp ECU Programming
Once a headlight system is damaged and goes through repairs, the final step is often the programming & coding of these various complex headlamp systems. Here at Level 5 we specialize in all types, including Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and MORE! Each manufacturer uses a different system and has different needs depending on the style of frontal lighting that is equipped on your vehicle. For example, BMWs require that once the headlamp control module is coded and programmed the HALO ring LED's must be taught to the car via a "LED teach-in" process. Many lighting assemblies may only partially work after replacement...but that doesn't mean they're bad! Oftentimes only one portion of the new headlamp assembly, either the running/decoration lights or only the main beam, will work after a frontal lighting ECU is replaced and not yet programmed. Once the systems have been programmed, coded, and set up properly all the lights will function together and those pesky warning messages on the dash will go away.
