Why Calibration?

Most accidents, even minor ones, can damage a vehicle's suspension and steering systems. When cars with ADAS features need suspension repairs or wheel alignment, the process is a little more involved. Features like Lane Keep Assist and Collision Mitigation must be accurately measuring how the vehicle is traveling down the road. This is carried out by the vehicles cameras and radar systems mounted behind the windshield and front bumper. If the steering angle sensor is adjusted during a wheel alignment, in some cases the forward-facing camera must also be adjusted. Otherwise, it may think the steering wheel is turned when it is not, and give incorrect steering inputs when the vehicle is between the lines.
